Amati: The only natural mineral water source in Crete

The spring gushes out of the carbonate rocks of Psiloritis, at an altitude of 402 metres and the supply varies around 400 m3/h. This spring [Zaros Amati Spring] is characterized as an overflow spring and for this reason an artificial lake was formed around the spring in 1987, namely, Lake Zaros. The spring’s overflowing water supply the rivers in the greater area and end up at the Phaneromeni dam. 

The spring has a stable supply, with a natural reduction in the dry period, suggesting that the supply basin inside Psiloritis is significantly large.  From this point, in the centre of the basin and at a depth of 180m, the water flows naturally through third generation piping to the ZAROS S.A factory. 

The excellent physical, chemical and microbiological quality, as well as the water's excellent stability have characterized the Amati spring as the unique Natural Mineral Water spring in Crete.

The Sterna spring, north of Zaros, supplied Ancient Gortyna. The water supply network in the area has been developed since antiquity. There are still ruins of the Roman aqueduct. The spring’s supply varies from 100 - 200 m³ per hour between the dry and wet period.
